BOTTLE
SIZES
What’s the difference between ordering a split of champagne
and a magnum of champagne? The magnum is actually eight times larger
than the split. Traditionally, wine is bottled in ten different
sizes, and the names can get rather confusing. A standard bottle
is 750 mL, or ¾ of a liter. A half-bottle, also known as
a demi, is pretty straightforward, while a split is half of that,
or ¼ of a standard bottle. The magnum is the equivalent
of two standard bottles, while larger sizes are named after ancient
Kings and biblical characters.
