Resveratrol
Supplements

The
health benefits of red wine are by now fairly clear to anyone who
chooses to look, and ongoing studies point to resveratrol, an antioxidant
found on the skin of red grapes, as a key player in the
process of fighting cancer, Alzheimer’s and many other diseases.
But
even the most enthusiastic oenophile would have a tough time drinking
enough wine to get the levels of resveratrol with which scientists
work—an amount anywhere
from dozens to hundreds of glasses a day. That’s why resveratrol
is now available in supplement form, allowing high doses of these
beneficial substances without the alcohol. In fact, the resveratrol
in many of these supplements comes not from grapes but from Japanese
knotweed, an alternative source.
