A PERFECT TEN
Casual Meets Elegant in 10 Cane Luxury Rum
by Alain Gayot

Rum lovers, listen up: here is a brand new rum that’s not from a newbie spirit maker. The liquor division of the luxury brand conglomerate LVMH, Moët Hennessy USA, pulled out all the stops to bring you a fresh, crisp, light and almost-clear rum.

Breaking with the tradition of absorbing an established prestigious brand, the company built this rum from scratch. After growing their own sugar cane in the fields of sunny Trinidad, they set up shop using imported Charentaise pot stills and Limousin oak barrels to age the rum. Only pure sugar cane juice is used for this rum—not leftover molasses like with other brands. The cane juice undergoes a long six-day fermentation and double distillation to create its potent but smooth taste.

Consider this a terroir rum in that its fresh natural ingredients bring out the rum’s best flavors. Neat on the nose, this spirit suggests flavors of vanilla, typical of sugar cane. A hint of sweetness lingers on the palate during its long finish, which carries flavors of sugar cane and oak. Although 10 Cane is one of the few rums that could be consumed alone, we also liked it in a daiquiri or mojito, where the rum elevates the taste of the cocktail.
