PRACTICAL SIPPER
Govino Wine Glass

Two govino wine glasses

Wine glasses of every shape and size all share the same flaw: they chip or break when dropped on a hard surface. Govino’s solution to the problem? A clear plastic wine glass. This glass was designed originally for members of the wine trade, and while it may not be able to replace crystal, it is an improvement on the flimsy plastic cups found at many parties and picnics. Along with being portable and hardy, each glass is inexpensive, costing approximately three dollars—a pittance compared to finer crystal glassware available.

The stemless glass is made from a proprietary, food-safe plastic that can be reused as well as recycled. Along with a curved surface that tapers towards the top, the govino glass has a thumb groove to make it easier to hold and swirl. Unfortunately, the company won’t claim that their product is dishwasher safe, meaning that you’ll have to hand wash it like regular crystal. For people who need a practical drinking vessel for a festive occasion, this is a glass that won’t shatter when put to the test. You can find the govino glass at select wine and grocery stores, or order sets of glasses (starting at twelve for $36) on the govino website.
