Fine
Selections for Your Valentine
SPARKLING
Champagne
Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millenaires 1990 ($90)
Some taste lightly toasted, buttered brioche, others cherish
the freshly cut grass flavors - whatever you read into it,
this fine, elegant sparkler has a whole lot going for it.
WHITE
Chappellet
Dry Chenin Blanc 2001 ($13)
A
big and juicy white. With aromas of pear and honey, honeydew
melon and hint of almond, you have a refreshing alternative
to the same old Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio.
RED
Michel-Schlumberger
North Coast Syrah 1999 ($22)
A dark appearance of a deep purple jewel is complemented by
lush, red fruit smells of raspberry and cherry. A full yet
soft body combines with a pleasant mouthfeel to an even and
progressively smooth finish accented by some spice.
SWEET/DESSERT
Bonny
Doon Muscat Vin de Glacière 2000 ($17)
This classic nectar has a "discreet quantity of acacia
wood in the élévage of the wine."
The latter adds a substantial richness and depth --- a beautiful
counterpoint to its sweetness.
