TASTING NOTES

Laetitia Vineyard and Winery

1999 La Colline
Single Vineyard Pinot Noir

Varietal/Style: Pinot Noir
Origin:
Arroyo Grande Valley, CA
Vintage:
1999
Winemaker:
Eric Hickey
Rating: 13.5/20
Retail Price: $60

Tasting Notes: So dark it's almost too dark. A cornucopia of smells emanates from the swirled glass: dark fruits, cherries, mint, and eucalyptus. A medium body will give you wine-to-food flexibility, but stay with white meets or fish. A tangy and spicy finish would have hoped to keep our mouths entertained just a bit longer… nevertheless, we think this wine will age well and could benefit from it. (Date tasted 02/24/03)

1999 Brut Rosé
Varietal/Style: Brut Rosé Sparkling Wine
Origin:
Arroyo Grande Valley, CA
Vintage:
1999
Winemaker:
David Hickey
Rating: 13.5/20
Retail Price: $24

Tasting Notes: A fine peach hue like shaved smoked salmon presents this Rosé. Balanced, cherry aroma mousse. The bubbles remain lively and take you to a long pleasantly clean finish. (Date tasted 12/20/02)

1997 Brut Rosé
Varietal/Style: Brut Rosé Sparkling Wine
Origin:
Arroyo Grande Valley, CA
Vintage:
1997
Winemaker: Louis Mitjavile
Rating: 13/20
Retail Price: $28

Tasting Notes: Although a fine peach hue like shaved smoked salmon implies a delicate Rosé, the almost deflated mousse may be a better indication of things to come. Aromas are nutty and oaky, perhaps a little musty, but lack any fruit drive. Despite the disappointing mousse, the bubbles remain lively and very subtle fruit flavors hint at cherry. The long finish is pleasantly clean, however it lacks the typical red fruits of a Brut Rosé. All in all, it is an intriguing drink, but a bit pricey. (Date tasted 01/28/01)

1998 Estate Pinot Blanc
Varietal/Style: Estate Pinot Blanc
Origin: Arroyo Grande Valley
Vintage: 1997
Winemaker: Louis Mitjavile
Rating: 13/20
Retail Price: $16

Tasting Notes: This Central Californian Pinot Blanc packs body full enough for an American Chardonnay-lover, while retaining the distinct style of its own varietal. French oak aging adds vanilla and toast while a lush blend of tropical fruit flavors make it a provocative choice for a midsummer’s day. (Date tasted: 03/03/200)

Profile: In 1998, Barnwood Vineyards purchased what was formerly the Central Coast's only premium Champagne house, Maison Deutz, to create a unique marriage of French and American winemaking traditions. When Laetitia estate in the Arroyo Grande Valley appellation of San Luis Obispo County was originally planted in 1982, 185 acres were chiefly devoted to the production of sparkling wine - today 455 acres are planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Noir, the latter being their flagship wine.
