NOT JUST A PRETTY FACE
Lichido Liqueur
by James Riswick

We were all told not to judge a book by its cover, and yet everybody does it. The world of wine and spirits is no different, as trendy labels and bottle designs are becoming almost as important in marketing as what’s beneath the cork or cap. No doubt, then, that the bottle presented here caught your attention. With its purple and green glass design with pink liqueur and gold graphics, Lichido is definitely a beverage that will get orders based on its looks alone. Luckily, though, this isn’t the Paris Hilton of liqueurs—there’s actual substance behind the pretty face.

Produced in Cognac, France, Lichido is a blending of premium vodka and cognac infused with lychees, guavas and a pinch of peach juice. This combination of exotic Asian fruits and classic French spirits creates a unique and tasty experience, whether enjoyed straight or in several cocktails. By itself, Lichido is sweet and fragrant on the nose, with a supple mouthfeel and a fruit-filled taste. The dry peach and sugary guava flavors are easily recognizable, while the lychee lends an exotic flavor not commonly found in this part of the world. These tropical tastes are accompanied by the cognac’s complex flavors and followed by vodka’s unmistakable warming sensation. Its long, syrupy finish does encourage putting it on ice or in a cocktail, however. While other trendy bottle designs may be just flashy packaging, in the case of Lichido, its complex bottle is indicative of the beverage within.
