Mandarin Oriental, New York will present a “Weekend Immersion Wine & Food Course” with Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson. The course will feature structured lessons and tastings of a wide range of wines from around the world. On Friday evening, there will be an introduction to tasting and pairing. On Saturday, participants will savor Rieslings from Alsace and Germany; Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley, Bordeaux and New Zealand; and Chardonnay from Burgundy. Lunch will be served at the Mandarin Oriental’s ballroom along with fine Italian and Spanish wines. Saturday afternoon will showcase Pinot Noir from Burgundy, California and Oregon; Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, California and Bordeaux; and Syrah/Shiraz from Australia and the Rhône Valley. The Upstairs at ‘21' will host a winemaker dinner featuring wines from Flora Spring Winery. Visiting guest chef Daniel Echasseriau of La Samanna will prepare a seven-course dinner, which will be paired to wines by Flora Spring's Richard Tiedmann. The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. with pan-seared scallop over pineapple and vanilla tartare, grapefruit salad, spicy coconut milk vinaigrette, paired with 2006 Soliloquy; and duck foie gras, pan-seared tuna, cucumber, melon and herb butter, paired with 2006 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay. Following courses include monkfish medallion wrapped with sate endive and bacon, veal jus and bergamot, paired with 25th Anniversary 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon; black currant and chambord sorbet; roast lamb rack, West Indies spices and truffle-green pea mash, paired with 2004 Trilogy; and ravioli of braised cheeks of veal, kaffir lime leaves, Parisian mushrooms, rocket salad and celery, paired with 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon. For dessert will be caraibes chocolate crémeaux, red fruit marmalade and cubeb pepper ice cream paired with Port. The evening costs $195 per guest. Carolyn DeFir of The Tasting Room Restaurant is hosting a dinner with wines from Christopher Tracy and Allison Dubin of the Hamptons-based Channing Daughters Winery. Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival October 10-12
The inaugural Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival, a sister event to the annual South Beach festival, will be held Columbus Day weekend in the Meatpacking District to benefit the hunger-relief programs Food Bank for New York City and Share our Strength. The weekend kicks-off Friday evening with Meatpacking Uncorked, a neighborhood block party featuring area restaurants, retailers and live entertainment. On Saturday and Sunday, guests will sample delicacies from New York City restaurants as well as wines and spirits at the Grand Tasting on Pier 54. In addition, culinary demonstrations, wine seminars, book signings and meet-and-greet opportunities will take place throughout the neighborhood. The festival will also include the tradition of SWEET, presented by Ferrero Rocher, on Saturday night, which will showcase creations by select Food Network stars and New York City's pastry chefs, chocolatiers, bakers, confectioners and cheese makers.
