TASTING NOTES

Richard Hamilton Wines

1997 Old Vine Shiraz
Varietal/Style: Syrah
Origin: McLaren Vale, Australia
Vintage:
1997
Winemaker: Phillipa Treadwell
Rating: 13/20
Retail Price: $23

Tasting Notes: A rip-roaring wine, so typical of those irrepressible Aussies, this old vine Shiraz is almost overwhelmed by eucalyptus and pepper. Although it lacks finesse or great complexity, the wine is rich in the mouth with intense fruit flavors hinting of tomato jam. (Date tasted 08/26/00)

Profile: The roots run deep at Richard Hamilton, the first winery to plant vines in South Australia. Located in the McLaren Vale, a region known for its Mediterranean climate, Hamilton paved the way for some of Australia's finest Grenache and Shiraz vineyards. With over 160 years of practice, this winery clearly knows the recipe for success.
