TASTING NOTES

Alderlea

Pinot Gris
Varietal/Style: Pinot Gris
Origin: Vancouver Island

Vintage: 1998

Winemaker: Roger Dosman

Rating: 11/20

Retail Price: $12

Tasting Notes: This rosé-style Pinot Gris offers a glowing salmon color and a dry, fresh style. The nose hints at the rose petal aromas of a fine Provençal rosé, however the wine's balance lacks crisp acidity. Nonetheless, this Canadian creation is about as close to the South of France as you can get without leaving North America.
(Date tasted: 6/10/00)

Profile: Recognized as the rising stars in the Vancouver Island winemaking community, Roger and Nancy Dosman produce an almost astonishing variety of wines on their 10-acre farm in the Cowichan Valley. From Viognier and Merlot to Marechal Foch, every one of their more than half a dozen estate-grown wines reflect the Dosmans' attention to detail and passion for the vine.
