TASTING NOTES

Chatom Vineyards

1998 Sauvignon Blanc
Varietal/Style: Sauvignon Blanc
Origin: Calaveras County, CA
Vintage:
1998
Winemaker: Scott Klann
Rating: 12/20
Retail Price: $10

Tasting Notes: This medium-bodied find from the Sierra Foothills is an excellent value for the money. Aromas hint of both cut grass and melon, and the finish offers good length for its light flavor impact. The wine lacks the acidity level of more racy Sauvignon Blancs, but this is a straightforward effort and a good buy at that! (Date tasted 11/5/00)

Profile: This winery has been putting the elements in place for a fully functional boutique operation for many years. First came the winemaking facility in 1991, then a new crush pad in 1998, enabling the production to move under one roof from start to finish. With the addition of Scott Klann as winemaker, Chatom is full speed ahead.
