Tasting
Notes: Known for growing conditions replicating
Italy's Piedmont region, the Shenandoah Valley is an ideal place for
produce Barbera. This particular example of the region's distinct style
is fruit forward with slight mineral edge. Although it lacks the backbone
of tannins, it makes a tasty summer sipper. (Date
tasted: 6/10/00)
Profile: Breaking away from Domaine de la Terre Rouge's tradition
for American Rhône-style wines, winemaker Bill Easton launched the Easton
Wines label to represent his experimentation with less-popular non-Rhône
grape varietals. Under the Easton name, the Sierra Foothills winery
produces such varietals as Zinfandel, Barbera, Semillon and a variety
of other grapes that thrive on the Amador area's decomposed granite
soil.
