TASTING NOTES

Gladstone Cellars

1999 Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel
Varietal/Style: Zinfandel
Origin: Dry Creek Valley, CA
Vintage:
1999
Winemaker: Ryan Petersen
Rating: 12.5/20
Retail Price: $23

Tasting Notes: Typical of Dry Creek Zinfandel, this first vintage for Gladstone Cellars exhibits soft, ripe, black-cherry scents and flavors. A medium-bodied, non-aggressive style for the Zin grape, we like this wine for its luscious fruit tones and hint of caramel on the finish. A relatively simple and straightforward wine, it is an applaudable first effort for this burgeoning operation. (Date tasted 10/26/01)

Profile: Although this year is the debut for one of the Dry Creek Valley's newest wineries, the Peterson family winemaking vision actually began in 1965 when Hereward Gladstone Peterson planted his Zinfandel vineyard. Still in its infancy at 520 cases, we predict this will be a winery to watch in the coming years.
