TASTING NOTES

Scherrer

1999 Vin Gris
Varietal/Style: Vin Gris
Origin: Alexander Valley, CA
Vintage:
1999
Winemaker: Fred Scherrer
Rating: 13/20
Retail Price: $15

Tasting Notes: What a wonderful surprise from this little Russian River winery! A truly European rosé made from all-American grapes, this medium-bodied effort offers light cherry flavors and a fine level of acidity. The hint of fizz that keeps it lively will make for a refreshing choice in the warmer months. (Date tasted 11/5/00)

Profile: This miniscule one-man operation in Sebastopol, California, has earned a mammoth reputation for its Zinfandel. The vision of Fred Scherrer, the winery produces limited quantities of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and for the first time, a Zinfandel-based rosé in addition to its Shale Terrace and 'Old & Mature Vines' Zinfandels.
