TASTING NOTES

Sherwood Estate

2001 Sauvignon Blanc
Varietal/Style: Sauvignon Blanc
Origin:
Marlborough, New Zealand
Vintage:
2001
Winemaker: Dayne Sherwood
Rating: 13/20
Retail Price: $10.99

Tasting Notes: Bright, zesty, lean—this is what Sauvignon Blanc is all about. Because it is a simple wine made from excellent fruit, we like the Sherwood for its straightforwardness. A light, citrus nose with metallic overtones leads the way to a spritzy burst of flavor in the mouth. About as food-friendly as they come, this New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc cries out for oysters. (Date tasted 10/26/01)

Profile: Highly regarded for its Pinot Noir, this family-run winery creates only three styles: Chardonnay, Pinot and, of course, Sauvignon Blanc from their Canterbury, New Zealand estate. A boutique winery with an aggressive international marketing program, Sherwood is helping to make a name for the quality of the Canterbury region on the worldwide market. In addition to their estate-labeled wines, owners Dayne and Jill (his wife) also produce a reserve label for the premium market.
